Matthew 22: 41-46 ”What Do You Think?”

Posted by fork union baptist in Book of Matthew, 2022 Sermons

Sermon date: 8/14/2022

This is the last week of Jesus’ life.  In these passages, Jesus turns the tide and asks the Pharisees this question: “What do you think about the Messiah?”.

Pastor Anthony teaches us that Jesus wanted to stir their hardened hearts and to help them realize that eternity boils down to what we believe about the Messiah, that we need to reveal our hearts to God.

Some questions we should reflect on are:
What do I think about Jesus?
What has He done and where has He delivered me from?
What is my testimony?

This is the last occurrence in the bible where the Pharisees tried to trap Jesus by asking Him which commandment is the most important.  Jesus' reply was to love God with all of your heart, soul and mind and secondly to love your neighbor as yourself.  Pastor Anthony guides us through these passages by revealing what God wants from us.

Once again Jesus is questioned about resurrection, this time by the Sadducees.  They were trying to trap Him into their nonbiblical version of the truth.  They scoffed at the idea of resurrection because it could not be explained by rational thoughts.  Pastor Anthony instructs us about the importance of knowing the scriptures and helps us understand that the resurrection will far exceed anything we have in life.

Matthew 22: 15-22 “Dual Citizenship”

Sermon date: 7/10/2022

Jesus said “Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give to God what belongs to God”.  These passages illustrate to us two false ideas of citizenship: first that religion (not faith) is supreme above everything else and secondly that government is supreme.  Pastor Anthony outlines the sins of those who have a false sense of citizenship and then teaches us the truth about being a good citizen.

Happy Father’s Day!  Today’s passage from 1 Kings is about King David speaking with his son Solomon and explaining it takes courage to be a man.  The instructions he gave to Solomon were to raise up future fathers and to follow the ways of the Lord in order to be successful.

Pastor Anthony encourages all men to live up to their responsibilities as fathers to raise Godly men.  We need to be like David and serve our generation with the will of God.

Matthew 21: 33-46 ”Renting From God”

Sermon date: 6/12/2022

In today’s sermon, Pastor Anthony delivers a powerful reminder of how God looks at the church.  In the parable of the evil farmers, the tenants do not follow the terms of their agreement.  God wants us all to be good tenants and workers, He wants us to do our part.  God wants us to carry out His will although He gives us the freedom to exercise our own.  Listen today to fully understand how God intends we work in His vineyard.
